We recently had multiple South African champion trainer, Mike de Kock, visit his horses during his short stint on the island. Once more, he was full of praise for the facilities available at the RG Poste Lafayette Training Centre.

“The facilities are very good, we’ve gone via the same quarantine base that Soft Falling Rain and Variety Club travelled through previously. There is an exercise track and a walker, Declan Cronin is overseeing their stint on the island and they’re all in excellent shape” said a pleased Mike de Kock on his website.

Roy Waugh, who is Paul Lafferty’s assistant trainer is also based at the RG Poste Lafayette Training Centre to supervise Harry’s Son training regime ahead of the Dubai Racing Carnival.

Like Mike de Kock, Roy was also full of praise for the facilities that were made available to him and champion Harry’s Son.

“The thing I notice about Poste de Lafayette is the cool, south easterly breeze all day. It makes for a very pleasant micro-climate, especially for the horses. Each stable has a large independently controlled fan, used mostly to keep the flies away. And there are nice paddocks, a lungeing ring and a couple of rolling sand pits to go with the 800m trotting track. So all in all, truly a very pleasant place for the horses, and I have to compliment Subu Gujadhur for what he has developed here. Even the flat he has kindly allowed me to use is most comfortable” said Roy.

About us

The Rameshwar Gujadhur Poste Lafayette Training centre was established in the mid 1990’s by Subiraj Gujadhur with the view of training some of the island’s finest racehorses. Throughout those years, several Mauritian Classic winners had their preparation on this East Coast facility which is a stone’s throw away from the beautiful beach.

Early 2011, a proposal from Hobday Equestrian Enterprise (HEE) meant that the facility was then upgraded to meet all EU Regulations for the export of horses to Europe from Mauritius. Since then, Subiraj Gujadhur has constantly tried to improve the facilites in order to cater for all of the requirements of the clients. As at December 2014, the RG Poste Lafayette Training & Quarantine Centre has been home to approximately 350 horses who have gone on to become stars by competing on the International stage.

Subiraj Gujadhur

Subiraj comes from a very well known racing background in the small island of Mauritius where his family has been heavily involved in racing for over 5 generations. He currently acts as Assistant Trainer to his dad, Rameshwar Gujadhur, who is a multiple Mauritian Classic trainer.

From a very young age, he was very much fond of racing and started being more involved after having completed his studies in London, England. Since then, it has been his dream and ambition to make a high standard training centre for his racehorses to prepare for competition as well as get the some much needed rest by the sea. He currently manages all the operations of the RG Poste Lafayette Training Centre.

Sanjay Kumar Bharuth (Anand)

Anand has been working with racehorses since the tender age of 17 and has acquired a wealth of experience both locally and internationally. Now at the RG Poste Lafayette Training & Quarantine Centre, Anand occupies the role of head lad. Anand has been and Subiraj (Subu) have been working together for well over 15 years given that Anand was looking after the former’s racehorses at the beach.
